Yeti Farms Creative

A while ago our class got to go on a guided trip of Yeti Farms Creative in Kelowna, BC. I had never visited a real animation studio before, so I was very curious to see what one was like.

It was very decorative. Lots of little knick-knacks and posters everywhere. There was a section with desks and people working, and on the other side, a section with a kitchen and common area, seemingly dividing the 'work' area with the 'rest' area. But even then, the desks where decorated with lots of personal affects and things. I guess since they spend so much time at work, they want it to feel a little bit more like home. They even had a couple of dogs wandering around!

I got to speak with one of the animators there, who was currently revising a scene. He showed us where the notes from the director were, what he had to do, and how he would go about doing it. I had no idea how the program he was using worked, but it was all very interesting.

I asked him how long it would take to revise the whole scene. He said practically, about 5 minutes, but realistically, 30 minutes. He explained that after every change to the scene, the computer would have to re-render the whole scene and update the change, which took a while. He said it wasn't uncommon to have the computers crash. That's why you save often!

All in all, it seemed like a very friendly place. Everyone seemed to work hard, but from what we saw and heard, it sounds like they play hard too.
